Make sure you get value for money when commissioning a website from a Scottish Web Developer.
Below is an example of what is known as a content management system (CMS) available free from mambo. This is open source software which means it is FREE to everybody and can be downloaded from the mambo website. Specialised hosting is required for web sites of this type but should cost you less than £100 per year.
Beware of Scottish Web Developers charging thousands of pounds for these sites. They cost nothing to create as you the customer will need to input all the content yourself. To customise the appearance of the pages will require a specialist but again look into this carefully and make sure that if you pay for these services the site looks quite different from the original mambo installation (pictured below).

Below is an example of a mambo CMS website from the Perthshire Chamber of Commerce. As you can see very little has changed from the above apart from the colours and some very badly designed graphics at the top - definitely not value for money here.

Bit sad for the Perthshire Chamber of Commerce, ripped off with an opensource site - missed opportunity to really make a difference for business in the Perthshire area.
