Perth & Kinross Council have spent thousands of pounds of taxpayers money on developing a new brand model to promote Perthshire as one of Scotlands most beautiful, vibrant and successful areas and Perth itself as one of Europes most successful smaller cities. The truth is somewhat different.
All work associated with the development of the new Perthshire Brand was given to companies outside of the Perthshire area, no local companies were considered. The decision to give the Perthshire Publications contract, an interactive CD rom and lifestyle magazine for G8 Summit delegates, to companies in Glasgow, Paisley and Oban outraged local professionals who were more than capable of completing the work. Following a series of articles which appeared in the newspapers, it came to light that lucrative contracts have been going to companies outside of the Perthshire area for years.
Contracts for council websites have also gone to companies outside the area, again no local companies were approached. They claim the websites are assessible - they are not. If you don't believe it, click here and type in the web address.
So, if you are thinking of bringing a business to Perthshire, you may wish to reconsider.
Perth & Kinross Council appear to neither respect or value local businesses.
Perth & Kinross Council continue to award lucrative contracts to companies outside Perthshire.
Perth & Kinross Council often do not approach local companies to ask them to tender for contracts.
Perth & Kinross Council appear to have little or no regard for the Chamber of Commerce.
As taxpayers and people concerned about the future for our business and our children's future employment prospects, we have a right to demand answers from Perth & Kinross Council.
Are the rumours that Perthshire may be swallowed up into either Dundee or Stirlingshire correct? This would be good news for local businesses and would see the much needed investment required to bring the area into the 21st century with hope for strong economic growth and a future for our children.
In the run up to the G8 summit to be held at Gleneagles this summer, the controversy over contracts lost to companies outside of Perthshire continues.
Perth and Kinross Council ignore all the bad publicity and hope it will all go away.
The Perthshire Chamber of Commerce appear to have done little or nothing to support Perthshire companies who are losing out in tenders and contracts put out by Perth & Kinross Council. 4 Perthshire Chamber of Commerce members lost out in the G8 publications contract.
WAKE UP; this is not just about the G8 Summit graphic design contracts. The implications have far reaching effects for all of us. If your business was being affected, you would rightly be annoyed too. Millions of pounds of business have been lost to companies outside of the area and more will go if this apathy persists.
Understand this! - Local economy thrives on the circulation of money in your area. If it goes out of the area then that money is not spent in your business whether you be a hairdresser, sandwich shop or even a corporate designer.
