The purpose of the Chamber of Commerce is supposedly to act as a resource for and to support local businesses. The first port of call for any new members is to contact other members but too many of the email addresses on the chamber of commerce website don't work.
If you are thinking of joining the Perthshire Chamber of Commerce, you may wish to consider the following before parting with your hard earned money.
The Perthshire Chamber of Commerce appears to be a social club and a self promotional vehicle for a small circle of people. There seems to be an endless number of jollies, lunches and quizzes to part you from your money. Don't be fooled, they only want your money. This is a business.
Any real talent seems to be unwelcome particularly if you are an incomer and you will be seen as a threat to the small circle. You won't see it at first as you are dealing with smiling assassins - nice to your face but beware!
The only way you appear to be able to get any work through them is if you are prepared to do it cheap or better still - for nothing.
Do they have no concept of quality, skill, talent or professionalism?
Perth and Kinross Council appear to think the Chamber of Commerce is a bit of a joke too and seem to have a poor relationship with them which means the Chamber have no influence on important council decisions that affect their members and their members businesses.
The recent farce with the Clyde Estate agents in glasgow.
There seems to be no evidence that the Chamber of Commerce have worked successfully with the council to ensure that Perthshire companies do not lose out on major contracts and yet the Chamber have known for years that lucrative contracts have been going to companies outside the area.
The Chamber of Commerce Star Awards (more aptly known as the Chamber Comedy Awards) are a complete farce. It seems that only a select few are allowed to win and the judges are fellow chamber members - no bias there then!
The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself. Friedrich Nietzsche
"Read, every day, something no one else is reading. Think, every day, something no one else is thinking. Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do. It is bad for the mind to continually be part of unanimity." Christopher Morley
We wish an end to this plague of strangers and our future to remain local and pure!!!
